The class is the first in a sequence of four introductory studios taken by Master of Architecture candidates, and it often constitutes the first exposure many of these students have to the field of architecture. The studio syllabus focuses on basic design problems and culminates with the design of a public space to display art. Ariane's experience teaching undergraduate architecture students at the University of Texas at Austin and Cathy's varied experience and skills as an architect here in Boston combine to create a strong foundation for the team teaching experience. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to go back to the basics and to revisit the principles that are fundamental to our profession," Ariane said. "Also, I love talking with students to get their perspective on the design problems they face, and to help them work through their hurdles." Cathy is also enthusiastic about the upcoming studio, "I am interested in giving back to my profession in a program such as the one at the BAC where students work in an office while going to school at night. I have a feeling I will learn as much or more from them as they will from me." |
