Chapman Jr. Hall, designed by Wilson Architects, was dedicated during a campus ceremony on Saturday, 18 November, at 9:30 a.m. The public was invited to attend. "The complex is a science building for the 21st Century," said UNC Chancellor James Moeser. "One of the things I like most about the Chapman and Caudill buildings are the fabulous windows because they let in so much light. These are science buildings, but they have such a wonderfully humanistic feeling about them." Peter Krawchyk, Project Manager and Assistant Director in the Facilities Planning Department at UNC, said it is important for researchers to have a certain amount of light to clearly see the work that is taking place. "The new buildings are designed to meet contemporary standards for scientific research," said Krawchyk. "They are more robust in terms of service, more clean electric power, data connection for all of the lab equipment and more modern fume hoods -- really just cutting-edge." "This project marks a milestone for the University in its goal for interdisciplinary research in a collaborative environment," said Bill Wilson, principal at Wilson Architects. |
