UNC Chapel Hill Retains WA for New Science Complex
11 April 2001

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has retained the services of William Wilson Associated Architects, Inc. to provide programming, and conceptual design for the Physical Science Complex.

The new Science Complex will consist of construction of approximately 200,000 GSF in two locations for the University's physical sciences departments. The first site will provide a combination of wet laboratories, and research facilities in an addition to an existing building. Special requirements for this addition include a rooftop astronomy teaching observatory, electronic shielding and a vibration -free structure. The building will require state-of-the-art design of ventilation and laboratory exhaust systems and will be house laboratories for chemical synthesis.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a research university. Fundamental to this designation is a faculty actively involved in research, scholarship, and creative work, whose teaching is transformed by discovery and whose service is informed by current knowledge.
