Institute of Advanced Materials - University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC
Chapman Hall houses the 21,000 NSF Institute for Advanced Materials (IAM) which is comprised of 10 nano sciences faculty, offices on Level 2, a clean room on Level 1, laser labs and dry labs on the ground level, and nano labs and high bay labs on the basement level. The shell and core of the addition bears a thickened concrete structure for stiffness, high-bay labs below grade for cryogenics, and vibration pits. The air handlers were located at the roof to keep the basement quiet for the sensitive scientific experiments.
