Marine Program - Boston University, Boston, MA
The 7,500 SF renovation in a 1980’s biosciences building for the Boston University Marine Program relocates research and teaching programs from a remote site to the main BU campus. The BUMP program is unique in its heavy use of fresh sea water creating a ‘wet’ lab environment while also using the instrumentation of a dry lab. With no source for sea water in the location, the design includes a ‘Life Support System’ to provide filtered and tempered artificial sea water. Included in the program are: wet/dry teaching lab, research laboratories supporting PCR sequencing / DNA extraction, electrophysiology, acoustics, electrochemical communication studies, and aquatic animal housing.
