J.C. Davis Nanotechnology Lab - Cornell University, Ithaca, NY
The J.C. Davis Lab is a $1M, 2,200 NSF renovation in the basement of Clark Hall, housing four experimental chambers and three control rooms. Each experiment chamber has a concrete tub housing a 20 ton inertia block (plinth) which is isolated from the existing structure with passive vibration isolators (pneumatic springs). The design includes pits for cryogenics. The vibration, acoustical and EMI requirements for Dr. Davis’ nanotechnology experiments were met by utilizing multiple layers of isolators and the elimination of building services.
