Specialty Labs

Wilson Architects designs specialty labs, including: clean rooms, nano synthesis rooms, nano microscopy rooms, imaging labs, chemical storage and handling, scale up labs, special synthesis / potenet compound, laser labs, dilution refrigeration, vivaria, research green houses, high bay and giant bay labs, cryogenic labs, robotic labs and NMR suites.

Programming for specialty labs and facilities is done in tandem with programming for the entire project, with added emphasis on the particular uses and requirements for each, and their associated components. The workshop schedule, equipment list, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing criteria are cornerstones of the design method. User and Owner participation and review in the design process is key so that all components of the program are successfully realized in the finished product. All appropriate engineering consultants are also included in the process as their work is critical to the success of the project.

Room sheets and module types are developed for each lab along with all associated metrics. Issues of layout, materials, equipment, and utility types and locations are all documented. These are then used as "templates" that can be modified to address wider issues of the program such as functional adjacencies, institutional protocols and procedures, and containment, control, and safety concerns. All this information is then incorporated into the drawings and specifications of the project, and ultimately result in the Construction Documents used for construction of the facility.
