New Art Installation at URI
On May 1st, the Art Installation ‘GeNeSiS’ at URI’s Center For Chemical & Forensic Science was dedicated. Commissioned to the artist Erwin Redl by the Rhode Island Counsel on the Arts (RISCA) as part of the ‘Percent for the Arts’ program. The installation is an interactive piece consisting of LED lit panels with letters of the Periodic Table. Users can submit poetry formed by the letters in the Periodic Table through this website https://genesis.chm.uri.edu/write, which can later appear in the installation.
It was a pleasure being a panelist on the art selection committee representing the design team at Wilson Architects. I was impressed with how GeNeSiS functioned on multiple levels: tying Art to the Science, forming a beacon that connects pedestrian flows through the campus and the building, and giving the users the power to engage with the piece through their cell phones.
