It’s Tech Talk Time!
Each month at WA, we gather for a knowledge sharing lunch we call “Tech Talks”. The Talks are a monthly forum for sharing ideas, details, and lessons learned. They are a great way for an individual or team to share their knowledge and prompt questions by anyone in the firm.
Tech Talks are internally organized by Associate Principals, Matt Ellsworth and Jeff Puleo. Matt leads discussion topics focused on building technology. Jeff leads topics focused on educational and laboratory planning and design. Both partner with other associates and designers, so that talks represent a variety of perspectives.
Tech Talk topics have included everything from the construction coordination challenges of bathrooms, to detailing precast facades, to the value of laboratory and exterior mock-ups. Some talks are delivered in a “presentation style,” but most are organic discussions, using a drawing or image to spur conversation. With such deep technical content, our Tech Talks qualify for AIA continuing education units (CEUs). And they are a source of inspiration for this Blog, for magazine articles / whitepapers, and for our presentations at conferences and trade shows.
Tech Talks are one element in our professional development and knowledge sharing plan. Other key elements include: curating our lunch n’ learns, attendance at key outside workshops (such as those by YDPDI, Eagleson Institute, and the Building Science Corporation), software training, and traditional project-based mentoring.
